Nature/Leisurely walks : +++ Culture : ++ Shopping : +

This is undoubtedly the most discreet arrondissement of Paris. Numerous administrations have decided to set up in this very quiet neighbourhood which gives the impression of dozing in the shade of the Bois de Vincennes. Although recent, the arrival of developers and the starting up of the Bercy project are giving it a second life. Indeed, a new village is springing up near the Palais Omnisports, bringing with it new shops, bars and a new population.

The very beautiful Gare de Lyon should not be forgotten either - a baroque building lost between two glass buildings, which serves south-east France.

Finally, you can see the Opéra Bastille built on the site of the Bastille prison, and the Place de la Nation, formerly the Place du Trône, where the Guillotine was, responsible for so many executions at the time of the French Revolution.

Routes for everyone :

for lovers of leisurely walks :

Start your walk in the Bois de Vincennes which will charm you, and which will be an occasion for you to wander around and discover its innumerable resources. If you like animals, there is a big zoo, moreover, with the Paris Farm ("Ferme de Paris"), where you will have the opportunity to see births of farm animals and to find out about the animals. All within a very welcoming rural atmosphere. But the Bois de Vincennes is also famous for its floral gardens: the floral garden of Paris will delight you with its great diversity, as will the arboretum garden where you can discover exotic vegetation. A delight to look at. If you like you can relax beside a lake, the Lac Daumesnil. On the edge of the lake, you will find an authentic Buddhist Temple. You can end your stroll in the Bois de Vincennes with the Cartoucherie de Vincennes. If you come in April or May, don't miss the biggest fair in France, the Foire du Trône.

But, if your heart so desires, you can make a stop at the Aligré market in the Opéra - Bastille neighbourhood, one of the liveliest and busiest: you won't go home empty handed.

for lovers of culture :

There is plenty to cultivate your mind in the different neighbourhoods of the 12th arrondissement. First of all you can spend the evening in splendid surroundings, at the Opéra - Bastille, where you can see sumptuous shows.

In this same neighbourhood you can marvel at the Gare de Lyon, a baroque style building, with rooms inside which are listed as historic monuments.

In the Nation neighbourhood, you can stop at Place de la Nation, where there was originally a guillotine, and at the Picpus cemetery, where all those guillotined are buried.

To the south-east of this neighbourhood, at the site of the Palais Omnisports of Bercy, you will find the Musée des Arts Forains, and the vineyards of Bercy.

You can end your cultural outing in the Bois de Vincennes. Its castle is open to visitors, as is the Musée des Arts d'Afrique et d'Océanie: a busy day in prospect.

for lovers of shopping:

The 12th arrondissement has numerous luxury boutiques all along Avenue Daumesnil. It is not, however, the best arrondissement for shopping. Only the Aligré market will live up to your expectations, in a lively, pleasant setting!

To remember : L'Opéra - Bastille / La Gare de Lyon / La Place de la Nation / Le Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy / Le bois de Vincennes.
